- Door type: A standard door is the most affordable option, while custom-sized, glass-panelled or sound-insulated doors are significantly more expensive. Exterior doors and sliding doors are also typically more expensive than interior doors.
- Scope of work: Simply replacing an old door with a new one is considerably lighter work than creating an entirely new doorway or changing the size of an opening. More extensive work includes demolition, frame modifications and additional reinforcements.
- Opening size: Using standard dimensions keeps costs in check, while extra-wide or extra-tall openings require more work and often custom-made doors.
- Structural reinforcement: In load-bearing or stressed walls, adequate reinforcement must be built around the doorway, which increases both material and labour time.
